THE HOUSE consists of an original public area to which has been added a quiet, private retreat wing of seven single residential rooms with a garden for retreatants only. So, there is the opportunity for individual, quiet contemplation and Buddhist practice in the retreat wing and private garden. The main house has several bedrooms of varying sizes. The house and gardens have a peaceful atmosphere enhanced by the regular daily Buddhist routine of shared meditation and pujas.
Teachers: Marpa House has hosted many eminent Tibetan teachers who have kindly given instruction on many aspects of meditation and practise. Teachings may take place over a day, a weekend or can extend for several days. Some teachings take place in the shrine room, others in a large marquee on the lawns. The timetable for teachings is set specially as appropriate.

Staff: In addition to a paid house administrator, Marpa House is run with a further staff of four- a secretary, a cook, a cleaner and a gardener. These four follow the disciplines and guidelines of the house. It is possible to apply to live for up to a year at the house as one of these staff members. At times the house requires short-term help. Board and lodging and free attendance at all teachings/courses is provided for all staff members. Applications are welcome, so if you are interested please contact the secretary who will put you in contact with the committee responsible for the day-to-day running of the house.
Volunteers: The staff welcome volunteers to help maintain the fabric of the house and gardens- for which there are organised days and weekends.

Members: Membership of Marpa House is welcomed by nomination and approval. Contact the secretary for details. Members elect a committee to run the house, together with the secretary, on a day-to-day basis.

Management: While the committee, secretary and the house administrator run Marpa House, overall responsibility lies with The Dharma Trust*.
